9th Annual Run Like A Mother 4 Mile Run/Walk
The 9th Annual Run Like A Mother 4 Mile Run/Walk put on by Chicks for Change, the Cedar Valley's committee of the Iowa Women's Foundation, is being held Saturday, May 12th at 9 am at Island Park.
Packet pick-up and late registration will be held Friday, May 11th at the Runner's Flat, 120 Main St. in downtown Cedar Falls from 4:30 to 7 pm. Race day registration starts at 7:30 am.
We welcome runners and walkers of all abilities. For the second year in a row there will be a Kids' run for all kids 12 and under with age groups of 2-4, 5-7, 8 -10, and 11-12 and distances accordingly. Kids' run will start at 10:00 a.m.
"While we have awards for some of the fastest racers that day, the focus is on fitness and family," said Suzy Freedman, race coordinator for Chicks for Change. "Strollers are welcome, and the out-and-back course encourages camaraderie and fun for everyone.”
Bring your family, friends, and colleagues and run/walk for fitness, fun and women and girls in the state of Iowa. Post-race fare includes Cup of Joe coffee, Panera bagels and cream cheese, fruit and Hostess snacks.
For the third year in a row we are offering a Virtual run for those unable to make it to the run/walk on race day. Register for the run like usual but run or walk in your community or run/walk the course on a different day. You will receive a t-shirt and anything else given to participants.
This is not just a race for chicks- men are welcome as well! Male and female age group awards will be given as well as awards to the fastest mother, fastest female pushing a baby jogger, fastest male pushing a baby jogger and largest group of runners/walkers from one family.
All money raised will go to the Iowa Women's Foundation. The Iowa Women's Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering women and girls throughout Iowa. The organization supports projects throughout the state that are created to meet needs not otherwise met in the community and to open more opportunities for girls, especially those whose lives are compromised by economic and/or social problems.
