The Cedar Falls Municipal Band kicked off its summer concert series Tuesday with a flourish and a nod to another big event of the day - the Transit of Venus.
The band played the Transit of Venus March by John Philip Sousa as the sun - and with it the rare astronomical event - set behind the Overman Park bandshell.
The park was full of music enthusiasts of all ages, sitting on folding chairs and blankets on the ground.
The band will continue its free outdoor concerts every Tuesday night throughout June and July. Concerts start at 7:30 p.m. at Overman Park.
