Cedar Falls Police: Man Poured Burning Water on Infant
The following information was provided by the Cedar Falls Police. It does not represent a conviction.
Cedar Falls Police arrested a man they say poured burning water on his 4-month-old daughter.
Police said Martavis Lee Smith, 19, of 1813-69 W. Eighth St., didn't test the temperature of water before pouring it over his daughter, Atavia Smith, and then waited before seeking medical treatment for her.
He was arrested Feb. 13 at 4 p.m. at the Cedar Falls Police Station and charged with child endangerment (serious), a felony.
The Department of Human Services called police to Sartori Hospital Jan. 17 when Atavia Smith was being treated for second degree burns.
Police said the child is expected to recover fully with no scarring.
