Possible Final Hearing Before Ruling in Price Lab Lawsuit Against Iowa Regents Set for Next Week
The lawsuit was filed in Black Hawk County court in March and seeks to overturn the decision to close Malcolm Price Laboratory School.
A hearing date has been set for a lawsuit filed against the Iowa Board of Regents in hopes of overturning a decision to close Malcolm Price Laboratory School.
The hearing will be Monday, June 18, at 10:30 a.m. at the Black Hawk County Courthouse.
Geoff Greenwood, communications director with the Iowa Attorney General's Office, said the hearing will include oral arguments on previously submitted briefs.
He said the Monday hearing is, at the moment, supposed to be the final hearing before the judge decides on the issues in the lawsuit, but the judge could decide to postpone the decision.
The lawsuit, which was filed in March by a group of 37 Price Lab parents and community members, argues the Board of Regents did not have the legal authority to close the school.
The school shut its doors at the end of May as part of wide-reaching budget cuts at the University of Northern Iowa.
