Despite threatening clouds and major storms elsewhere in the state, hundreds of people turned out to watch Goonies in Overman Park Friday night for Movies Under the Moon.
Movies Under the Moon, put on by the Hearst Center of the Arts, along with Community Main Street and the Gallagher-Bluedorn Performing Arts Center, features free family-friendly movies throughout the summer.
The Cedar Valley Acoustic Guitar Association played live music before the movie Friday, and the Cedar Falls Mennonite Church and Maid-Rite sold food.
New this year, Bike Tech is offering "Bike Chech," in which Bike Tech staff offer free valet bike parking. The project was funded by the Iowa Department of Public Health through the 2011 Community Transformation Grant project.
Here is the Movies Under the Moon schedule for the rest of the summer:
July 13 - Mamma Mia! (PG-13)
July 27 - Free Willy (PG)
August 10 - Ghostbusters (PG)
August 24 - Dolphin Tale (PG)
Movies start at dusk, usually around 9 p.m.
