Man Shattered Gas Station Door to Escape Cold: Cedar Falls Police Blotter

arrested a man they found hiding inside a gas station early Sunday morning.

Zachary Palmer Carney, 19, of 1016-2005 Campus St., Bender Hall, was arrested at the 18th Street at 2:03 a.m. and charged with consumption in public/intox, third degree criminal mischief and criminal trespass.

Police said they were summoned to Conoco Sunday and found the front door to the business shattered. Carney was allegedly hiding inside and told police he had intentionally shattered the door. Police said he told them he was cold and wished to entered the closed business. Damages were estimated at over $500.

Michael Mohan Leyh, male, 38, of 5008 Millenium Drive, arrested at 2:59 a.m. at same location, charged with assault D/A enhanced aggravated.

Jan. 16:

Martha Rose Claasen, female, 24, of Waterloo, arrested at 12:40 a.m. at Fourth Street and Franklin Street, charged with operating while intoxicated/drugged first.

Brett Michael Recker, male, 21, of 609 W. 10th St., arrested at 1:22 a.m. at 13th St. and Main St., charged with operating while intoxicated/drugged first.

Justin Michael Murphy, male, 26, of Waverly, arrested at 9:49 p.m. at 220 Clay St., charged with fifth degree theft.
