Take a Look at the New Cy-Hawk Trophy Concepts and then Vote

Want to see what trophy the Hawkeyes and Cyclones could be vying for in the future? Read on.

Remember last fall when a new Iowa versus Iowa State (Cy-Hawk Series) trophy caused a minor Iowa Internet meltdown due to its appearance?

Well, there are new trophies up for consideration now taken from fan submissions, and you have a chance to vote on them here. This new Cy-Hawk Trophy will be the one that will be played for when the Iowa State Cyclones take on the University of Iowa Hawkeyes for their annual football rivalry this fall.

And because the game is in Iowa City this year, that's where the trophy will stay. (Let the trashtalk begin!)

Here's the voting timeline:

April 14, 2012     Voting Begins at 12:01 a.m.
April 30, 2012     Voting Ends at 11:59 p.m.
May 1, 2012     Winning Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk series football trophy design announced.
Sept. 8, 2012     Cy-Hawk football trophy on the sidelines at the Iowa State vs. Iowa football game.

So far, with a slight majority of Hawkeye fans voting, the "Mascot Football Concept" is in the clear lead.

Why, exactly, was the old trophy scrapped? Hate these ideas slightly less than the first offering. Still not excited about any of the designs.

Here's the old trophy. Not bad, except for the player is clearly going to dislocate their shoulder if they try to stiff arm someone like that. http://blogs.desmoinesregister.com/dmr/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/dmrdc5-5qyci6inptd19cjn2h4_original.jpg

Also, I assume since Iowa Corn is the sponsor having corn in it became a requirement.

Just cut Iowa out of Plexiglass and be done with it. I agree, Deb. Pretty darned awful.

These, thought better than the first design, are still not great. Needs more cowbell

Watch what you ask for. Cowbells, the vuvuzelas of the south, are at Mississippi State: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YYipvWLozFE

Women who promoted the beef industry were once called Cowbelles and, perhaps, still are. Hopefully, though, they've jettisoned those jumpsuits that showed where the various cuts of beef would be if a woman were, in fact, a side of beef. #SickAndWrong

Some folks making this more difficult that it should be. The trophy should feature both schools logos . . . not the mascots, and should feature a a 3D image of a nicely developed corn cob (Pioneer 250 bu kind), and use a square base vs. round. They could even use the previous, but more classy, ISU cyclone logo :)

These designs are just barely better than the one that was rejected. At the risk of bias, and I say this as a U. of I. grad, give the design students at ISU a chance to enter the competition.
