Weird Iowa: Gabby Douglas Hair Haters, Protester Scuffle, Hiding from Cops at Mom's House and Mutilated Cat
Weird crime, weird cat killing, weird sign bashing, weird Iowa.
A crime in Cedar Rapids is horrifying as well as just plain weird.
A burglar broke into a vacant home in Cedar Rapids and didn't take anything, but police say the criminal lopped the head off a harmless cat. Police said the cat owner's friend found the lifeless feline on a bedroom floor, according to Marion Patch.
It's a bit weird when a suspect admits to police their wrongdoing. A 19-year-old Ames man faces a string of charges including a felony after allegedly breaking out a car window while under the influence of alcohol. Ames police found Zachary Berg of Ames hiding in a bush when they arrived to investigate a report of a man breaking out car windows, records said. Berg fit the description police had, and when he first spoke to police he allegedly said, “I'm drunk,” but he refused to cooperate and tried to run, police said.
An Iowa City man is facing a serious midemeanor charge for allegedly destroying a woman's anti-abortion sign as she protested at the intersection of Riverside Drive and Highway 6. William Carl Kapp, 26, of Iowa City told police he grabbed and smashed the sign because he was "overwhelmingly offended that children passing by would be subjected to the image" which he described as "horrific" and "obscene."
Note to Cedar Falls area fugitives: Don't hide at mom's house. Austin Mitchell Johnson 18, of Evansdale, was found by Evansdale police after a foot chase with Cedar Falls police; he was found at his mother's house, police said. Johnson was sought for failing to return to a Department of Corrections residential facilty.
And lastly, Patch finds it weird that as Americans discovered 16-year-old Gabby Douglas, who has spent the past two years toiling at Chow's Gymnastics in West Des Moines -- only to win two Olympic gold medals -- her hair was a topic of huge online discussion.

Enough blogs about Gabby's hair. Now, let's figure out how to fix this economy and start paying off our huge debt. Just imagine what China will want for payment if we don't start paying what we owe them. Will they take Hawaii ? Maybe Alaska too ?

Animal abuse should be taken far more seriously than it is. Anyone who would lop off the head of a cat would probably do it to a person, too. In fact cruelty to animals is one of the four major characteristics of serial killers. I am appalled.
I refused to comment on Gabby's hair during the uproar. I never once thought about Gabby's hair as she performed her incredible athletic feats, such as flying through the air. She's 16 years old. Such commentary is cruel and shallow. She's not a doll, she's a person, an athlete.
I understand the emotions of the 26-year-old who grabbed the pro-lifer sign of a mangled, dead baby. He smashed it in protest. I'm not saying it's legal to do such a thing, but when you consider the effect of such photos on children, it would be tempting not to do the same thing as that young man. Such signs are obscene and horrific.

Too funny that you are more worried about how a sign "offends" you because it is horrific...how about you instead get offended and Outraged over the horrific murder of the unborn via the 'partial birth abortion???' The signs are showing the truth about this horrific proceedure. It is the murder of children and you should be outraged at that fact!!!
