Lincoln Elementary Kids Say 'Thank You' to Injured Cedar Falls Veterans Morris and Hamilton

Both Taylor Morris and Quentin Hamilton were injured by explosions in Afghanistan. They are both also former Lincoln Elementary School Tigers, and the school's community wanted to show its support.

When asked if they have any messages for Quentin Hamilton and Taylor Morris, two Cedar Falls natives injured in Afghanistan this year, Kelly Sullivan Loughren's second graders at Lincoln Elementary thrust their hands into the air.

"Thank you for serving our country!"

"Believe that you can get better!"

They called out their answers in rapid bursts, eager to share their encouragements for two former members of their school.

Both Hamilton and Morris are graduates of , and today the school held a fundraiser to show support for the wounded armed service members.

Students could wear hats to school if they donated a dollar. The total will be split between the Hamilton and Morris families.

Morris, an explosive ordinance disposal technician with the Navy, in Afghanistan May 3. He is recovering at Walter Reed Medical Center in Virginia.

During Patch's visit to the school, staff were still counting the total raised, but several teachers said their students donated more than the asked for $1.

"This is awesome. Lincoln is pretty good about showing support," said fourth grade teacher Jeff Bell, a National Guardsman who was deployed to Iraq in 2005, 2006 and 2007. "It's no surprise they would do something like this."
