Injured Cedar Falls Sailor Taylor Morris Has Thousands of Fans

Morris, 23, was badly injured in Afghanistan. Now thousands are following his healing progress online.

An injured Cedar Falls sailor is not alone in his recovery.

His parents and girlfriend are by his side. But they are not the sole supporters for Taylor Morris, 23, a petty officer with the Navy in action in Afghanistan May 3.

Back in Iowa, and across the country, people are tuning in and chiming in their hopes for his speedy recover.

Morris lost both legs, his left arm from the bicep down and his right hand.

Since his injury, an online presence in his honor has sprung up and taken off like wildfire. A Facebook page dedicated to him garnered over 600 "Likes" in three days. A website following his recovery on CaringBridge.org had been viewed over 20,000 times as of Friday morning. At taylormorris.org, another website set up to keep the public informed of Morris's progress, the guestbook had been signed over 30 times Friday morning; the guesbook at CaringBridge had been signed over 450 times.

The guestbook entries are coming in from family, from friends, from people who only knew Taylor in passing and from complete strangers. We wanted to share a few of them with you here.

Your courage and bravery are such an inspiration to us, as well as to the rest of your world of friends and the circle beyond.  As I write, there have been 19,980 visits to your guestbook page: do you realize that is MORE people than the UNIDOME will hold?????  :)

You don't know me. I never got the chance to meet you, but I do know some of your friends from Cedar Falls.. I just wanted to say thank you soooo much for your service. We are praying constantly for all of you. Our hearts feel a little of what you are going through. Be strong.

Last night before bed Reid (my 2 year old) said "Mama I wanna pray for "tay-were" the soldier with some owies." Even the youngest residents of Cedar Falls are sending you their love and good thoughts.

To the Morris family and Danielle, It sounds like you have a true Warrior, not willing to give up. And a strong support group. I want to wish you all the best in this tragic situation.

Keep it up Warrior! We believe in you!

These are excerpts of just a handful of the hundreds of messages of support for Morris and his family.

According to taylormorris.org, Morris is currently receiving medical care at Walter Reed Army Medical Center near Washington D.C. and remains stable. His parents Dan and Juli Morris and girlfriend Danielle Kelly are with him.

Hopefully, some of the love flowing his way online will help Morris and his friends and family through his recovery.

Taylor, our thoughts are with you here in Cedar Falls.
