CEDAR FALLS, Iowa -- The Iowa Pride Network (IPN) recognized the University of Northern Iowa's student organization UNI Proud with the Best Gay-Straight Alliance (GSA) Award. The award was presented at IPN's Honors Benefit on Thursday, May 16, in Des Moines. This is the second time in the last 3 years that UNI Proud has been honored as the best college GSA in Iowa.
All Iowa college GSA and lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender (LGBT) groups are eligible for nomination based on their continued efforts toward raising awareness of LGBT issues on their campus and in their communities. Nominees are also considered for the Best GSA Award based on crafting programs that create inclusive and accepting campus environments.
UNI Proud was founded on the principles of promoting an inclusive and accepting campus environment for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and ally (LGBTIA) individuals. The group is open to all UNI students and faculty.
