UPDATE: Woman Found Dead in Cedar River in Waterloo Identified

The woman's mother told police she had not seen her daughter for a couple of days, police said.

Police have identified a body found floating dead in the Cedar River in Waterloo Tuesday.

She is Shanda Fawn Werkmeister, 35, of Waterloo, according to Waterloo Police.

Police responded to a suspicious vehicle call at the 3900 block of Texas Street at about 2:20 p.m. Tuesday, authorities said. Witnesses said a car had been parked off the roadway on a gravel drive since Sunday, July 7.

Officers checked with the registered owner of the vehicle, and she told police her daughter had been driving the car, and she had not seen her daughter for a couple of days, police said. Officers then searched the area and found Werkmeister's body floating in the Cedar River.

The cause of death remains unknown, and the investigation is ongoing. An autopsy is scheduled for Thursday at the State Medical Examiners Office in Ankeny.
