President Obama Honors Taylor Morris on Veterans Day: 'In Taylor We See the Best of America'

On Veterans Day, President Barack Obama recognized Cedar Falls-native Taylor Morris, a soldier who lost all or parts of all four limbs while on duty in Afghanistan.

During a Veterans Day address, President Barack Obama singled out a Cedar Falls soldier who lost all or parts of all four limbs from a bomb blast while on duty in Afghanistan early this year.

Taylor Morris became one of only five successful quadruple amputees ever treated at Walter Reed Medical Center, and he continues to amaze with his resilience.

"Taylor couldn't make it here today because he and Danielle are out kayaking," Obama said of his girlfriend Danielle Kelly while speaking at Arlington National Cemetery on Sunday.

Obama chose to tell of Morris' bravery after improvised explosive device detonated leaving him on the verge of death.

"As Taylor lay their fully conscious bleeding to death, he cautioned the medics to wait before rushing his way. He feared another IED was nearby," the president said. "Taylor's concern wasn't for his own life, it was for theirs."
