Supported through membership donations, the Nature Reserve was established in 1976. The 300-acre wooded isle offers many activities and experiences to its visitors, including summer camps. The reserve is located right in the center of the Cedar Falls/Waterloo area.

Two buildings on the grounds provide space for weddings, receptions, parties, retreats, meetings and gatherings. Events can be scheduled at the rustic Interpretive Center and the Gene & Betty Buckles Program Center (aka the Green Building). Call the office for reservations or questions.

Nothing could be better than a night out at Hartman under the trees and stars! No distractions, just peace and the one you love!

What's not to love about Hartman Reserve? Go to Hartman Reserve with your sweetheart on Valentine's Day and enjoy the natural beauty of your surroundings and the one you love.

Give the best gift for Valentine's Day - the gift of time. Spend some time with your sweetie pie or children this Valentine's Day at Hartman. Breathe the fresh air, hear the wind filter through the trees, watch nature at its best. And if you want to propose to your sweetheart, the ground is much softer (than a floor) when you get down on one knee!

My kids love going to the Interpretive Center-toads, turtles, fish, cool blocks made of tree limbs. It's free and fun.

There is nothing like the spring wildflowers along the Oak Trail. Later in the year the Prairie Trail is so full of life, it is remarkable.

THE most romantic place in town! Beautiful hikes, ponds, animals, flowers, and birds-what more could you ask fof?! Definately a huge reason why we live here!

What a treat to have this natural oasis in our city!

As my fiance puts it, Hartman is a great place to take a walk in "the forest". Hartman is a gem right in the center of our metro area. Not only can you take a walk in "the forest", but Hartman naturalists also offer tons of different programs to the public all year 'round. Hartman is a great place on Valentine's Day or any other day of the year!

On my first winter hike in Hartman Reserve with my now-husband, a pair of deer frolicked nearby and then ran across the hiking trail as if we were in a movie. I joked my husband had probably scheduled the release of the deer to convince me winter hiking was romantic. Don't believe me? Check it out for yourself. The sweetness of nature is right below your nose - not even hiding - in our city!
