Braley currently represents Iowa's first district in the House of Representatives. He is seeking the Senate seat that Harkin has held since 1984.

Sen. Tom Harkin has endorsed Bruce Braley to replace him in the 2014 election. Braley currently represents Iowa's first district in the House of Representatives. He is seeking the Senate seat that Harkin has held since 1984. “When I was campaigning for Bruce during his first run for Congress in 2006, I knew he was the real thing: a passionate progressive, a natural-born leader," Harkin said in a press release. "He is someone from humble roots, who in the time he has been in Congress, has fought for working people and the struggling middle class."      Earlier this month, 71 Democratic members of the Iowa legislature formally endorsed Braley. In February, Rep. Dave Loebsack (IA-02) and former Rep. Leonard Boswell endorsed Braley for Senate…

Steve King and Kim Reynolds have passed on challenging Braley. Is the Iowa GOP in such disarray it cannot field a credible candidate for an open US Senate seat? Don't count on a serious candidate from the Ron Paul wing of the party: just ask Liz Mathis how well the GOP has done opposing her.   more ›

Braley, who represents Iowa's First District, including Cedar Falls, called him out for voting against the senate version of the Violence Against Women Act, according to a report in the Des Moines Register. Braley tweeted “#VAWA passes House overwhelmingly>280 votes. A good day on the House floor. 3 Iowans voted “yes.” 1 voted “no.” Any Guesses?” King said he supported the House version of the bill and released the following statement after his vote: "Although I am concerned that this bill was brought to the floor in a manner that undermined work done…

Latham Won't Run for Senate; Congressman Steve King Hasn't Decided

King issued a statement on his Facebook page Wednesday afternoon that he wouldn't rush into a decision on running for U.S. Senate.

Congressman Steve King, R-Kiron, led early GOP polls for the US Senate seat but said Wednesday that he has not yet decided if he will run. "A potential Senate race remains an analytical decision first and then one that requires deep conviction. Such a decision includes, of course, my family and the best interests of Iowans and Americans. It is too big a decision to be rushed." King said in a statement released on his King for Congress Facebook page. The announcement came after Congressman Tom Latham said that he would not run for the seat, according to a report on KWWL. Latham wrote in a letter to the people he represents that it would be wrong for him to launch a two-year campaign for office after he was just elected to his new district…

Poll: Former Iowa Gov. Vilsack Favored to Fill Tom Harkin's Senate Seat

Who will run for the seat to be vacated by long-time Iowa Senator Tom Harkin?

A day after Rep. Bruce Braley announced his intentions to run for the United States Senate, a Des Moines Register poll has found Iowans' top choice for the seat is former governor Tom Vilsack. Fifty-six percent of Iowans say he’d be an appealing Senate candidate, while 35 percent say he would not be an appealing candidate. Vilsack, who is the current U.S. Secretary of Agriculture, hasn't expressed interest in the seat, though he hasn't dismissed the possibility either. The only sure contender so far is Braley, who said in an email to supporters Thursday that he would form a committee to explore a Senate run. The seat has long been held by Democrat Tom Harkin, who has announced he will not seek re-election in 2014. An Iowa Senate seat hasn'…

Hey Joe, I'm ok. Well I kind of like that idea myself. I used to live in Florida and Texas where they have no income tax and I really liked it. I liked getting alittle more on my paycheck each week instead of the government taking it. And anytime that can happen its a good thing. What do you think? I would vote yes on that idea for sure.   more ›

But, if you are willing to help me, I'm ready to go," Braley wrote in an email to supporters. Kurt the "gridlock" seems to be here to stay for a while. Maybe its time to do away with the "parties" and just let whomever campaign and run on thier own beliefs. I know it won't happen but in theory it could be a way to stop the division of the political fighting. Just a thought.   more ›
