Evansdale Abduction: Burial Planned for Elizabeth Collins an 'Unbearable Step' But Part of Healing Process

A burial service has been planned for May for Elizabeth Collins. The family hopes the burial will be a step in the healing process.

One of the two Evansdale cousins that were abducted and found murdered six months later will be laid to rest next month. Heather Collins posted on her Facebook page that her 8-year-old daughter Elizabeth Collins will be buried at a service at 11 a.m. on May 4 at Waterloo Memorial Park Cemetery, KWWL-TV reports. "We feel that everyone in the community has given us such much support and has taken her as part of their child," Collins wrote on Facebook, according to KWWL. "We want everyone to have that chance to do the last unbearable step in putting her body in the ground. "This will just (be) one more step in the healing process, not that this will be any easier but we know with family and friends we get thru this step," she added. Elizabeth…

Community Marks Abducted Evansdale Girl's Birthday with Event

The birthday of Lyric Cook-Morrissey today, is a sad reminder of her disappearance 81 days ago.

Lyric Cook-Morrissey turns 11 today. It is a sad milestone in the abduction of Lyric and her cousin, Elizabeth Collins, both of Evansdale, more than 80 days ago. Family and friends will celebrate Lyric's birthday at 6 p.m. today at Countryside Vineyard Church, 3467 Lafayette Road in Evansdale. Classmates, teachers and friends of the cousins are invited, the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier and the Des Moines Register reports.  “I know there’s going to be a large turnout from the community, and we are just so grateful we have so many people praying and supporting us during this time,” Misty Morrissey, Lyric’s mother, told the Gazette. Kids will celebrate by frosting sugar cookies, creating cards for Lyric and making beaded friendship bracelets…

Update: Dive Team Concludes Search of Meyers Lake

Update: A dive team has concluded its search of Meyers Lake connected to missing Iowa cousins Elizabeth Collins, 8, and Lyric Cook-Morrissey, 10, who have been missing since July 13. Authorities have not yet said if they found anything, according to a Des Moines Register report. The search of the lake ended at about 2:30 p.m., the paper reported. Cedar Falls Patch is currently sitting in on a news conference in Evansdale. Meanwhile, Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier is reporting that the father of one of the missing girls, Daniel Morrissey, has been placed under court supervision and separately had a no-contact order modified to keep him apart from his wife, who is also the girl's mother.  These steps are not connected to the girls …
