An Afghan war vet from Cedar Falls, IA, who lost all or parts of all four arms and legs while serving his country, is among a group of wounded warriors reaching out to help injured survivors of the Boston Marathon bombing - many of who are also now amputees. Cedar Falls native Taylor Morris, who suffered his injuries while serving as a Navy Petty Officer in Afghanistan, knows how hard the journey of recovery can be. Taylor Morris to Receive 'Smart Home' and Benefit Concert Courtesy of Actor Gary Sinise's Foundation

Cedar Falls sailor Taylor Morris lost parts of all four limbs when he stepped on an explosive in Afghanistan.

Taylor Morris, the Cedar Falls sailor who lost parts of all four limbs while clearing explosives in Afghanistan, will receive a specially designed "Smart Home," courtesy of the Gary Sinise Foundation. Sinise, the actor who played Lt. Dan, a Vietnam veteran and double amputee, in the movie Forrest Gump, will put on a benefit concert in Cedar Falls to raise money for the project. The project is a collaboration of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation and the Sinise Foundation in the Building for America’s Bravest program, which strives to provide personal independence and freedom to wounded warriors by designing a house around their needs. Taylor Morris 'Citizen Co-Chair' at Obama Inauguration

Taylor Morris has been selected as one of eight citizen co-chairs to help celebrate President Barack Obama's inauguration.

A Cedar Falls sailor who gained national attention for his brave recovery as a quadruple amputee, including from the president, will serve as a "citizen co-chair" as President Barack Obama is inaugurated for his second term in the White House. Taylor Morris, who lost parts of all four limbs to a bomb blast while serving in Afghanistan last spring, is one of eight citizen co-chairs. The co-chair is "a new role created to highlight his first-term accomplishments with examples of lives that have either been improved by his actions or inspired his presidency," the Associated Press reports. It's been a rough couple of news weeks, which makes Buzz Feed's list of "26 Moments that Restored Our Faith in Humanity This Year" all the more worth sharing. The list includes Cedar Falls natives Taylor Morris and Danielle Kelly.

The last couple of weeks have been rough. From the news of Evansdale cousins Lyric Cook-Morrissey and Elizabeth Collins' bodies being found to the horrific shooting in Newtown, Conn., there is a lot of bad news circulating lately. So here's something refreshing. The website BuzzFeed.com has created a list of "26 Moments That Restored Our Faith in Humanity." Scroll down to number 25, and you'll see two familiar faces, Cedar Falls natives Taylor Morris and Danielle Kelly. On Veterans Day, President Barack Obama recognized Cedar Falls-native Taylor Morris, a soldier who lost all or parts of all four limbs while on duty in Afghanistan.

During a Veterans Day address, President Barack Obama singled out a Cedar Falls soldier who lost all or parts of all four limbs from a bomb blast while on duty in Afghanistan early this year. Taylor Morris became one of only five successful quadruple amputees ever treated at Walter Reed Medical Center, and he continues to amaze with his resilience. "Taylor couldn't make it here today because he and Danielle are out kayaking," Obama said of his girlfriend Danielle Kelly while speaking at Arlington National Cemetery on Sunday. Cedar Falls Turns Out by the Hundreds to Support 'Unstoppable' Hometown Hero Taylor Morris

Cedar Falls came together Friday for the Unstoppable Event, a benefit organized by family and friends of Cedar Falls sailor Taylor Morris.

Cedar Falls citizens turned out in remarkable fashion Friday night to support one of their own. Hundreds packed the Pipac Center for a benefit for Taylor Morris, a Navy petty officer who was badly injured in Afghanistan in May. Time and again, the theme of the night was community spirit and support for a native son. "I've got to say, Cedar Falls, I do a lot of these things," Gary Kroeger, who emceed the fundraiser, said. "I've never seen so many people in one room for one event. Thank you. We are overwhelmed with the turnout." An organizer said 500 tickets were pre-sold for the benefit, with more sold at the door. Taylor Morris, Cedar Falls' hometown hero, and his girlfriend Danielle Kelly were on The Today Show Monday morning, talking about their relationship and the journey they've been on since Morris, 23, was injured in Afghanistan in May. Morris, an explosive detection and disposal expert with the Navy, lost parts of all four limbs in a bomb explosion. He has been recovering at Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, D.C., with Kelly, also of Cedar Falls, by his side.
