UPDATE: Norovirus Cases Confirmed in Five Iowa Counties, Including Linn and Polk

If you have been experiencing vomiting, an upset stomach and diarrhea, it may be due to the norovirus.

Eight medium to large outbreaks of norovirus have been reported in five Iowa counties, including Linn and Polk counties. First off, don't freak out. Sometimes it seems like the news is trying to scare you when they say an exotic sounding illness has moved to your neighborhood, but don't be scared. Norovirus is not deadly. Ann Garbey, Deputy State Epidemiologist with the Iowa Department of Public Health, said it will, however, leave you feeling bad. "It makes people pretty miserable for a couple days," Garbey told Patch in a phone interview. She would know, too.
