It’s exciting to be a part of a building project that is the first of its kind in Ankeny, and to learn about how we can use smart building techniques to build a more sustainable home. Finding new ways of saving energy and saving money is something that will always be important to me. Born and raised in Central Iowa, I am familiar with both the agricultural mindset while serving the greater Des Moines metro market. My growing-years were spent on a small hobby farm, where my family grew their own food. My dad was very resourceful and recycled or reused anything he could, and went so far as pounding aluminum cans flat to take to the recycling plant. He also asked local farmers if he could tear down their old barns and corn cribs so he could either use it himself or sell it to others. I spent many summer days pulling nails out of native Iowa lumber (which is hard as a rock!). Some of that lumber went into our first home, which was a total rehab from the inside out. We built the garage of that home purchasing only the siding, shingles, and nails. This background is something I am thankful for, and the ability to think about saving energy and saving money is something that will always be important to me.

In my free time, my family and I like to play tennis, watch baseball, and stay active. My husband and I have three kids, two of which are grown. It’s important to us to have a great balance of work, play, faith and family to be happy and successful in our daily lives.
