Woman Dies In 2nd of 2 Major Accidents on I-380 in Black Hawk County Friday

Several people were injured in the accidents, which involved an ambulance transporting a patient, a truck, a patrol car and two motorcycles.

A woman died Friday in the second of two accidents that snarled traffic on Interstate 380 near Gilbertville.

The Iowa State Patrol said Shannan Managan, 44, of Harvey, Ill., was killed after the motorcycle she was riding struck a parked Black Hawk County Sheriff's Dept. vehicle.

The patrol car was parked on I-380 North with its lights flashing while the officer was outside on foot, directing traffic around another major accident, according to the accident report. The officer was not injured.

The motorcycle's driver, Roy Robinson, 44, of Chicago, Ill., was injured and was transported via ambulance to Covenant Medical Center in Waterloo.

The incident, at about 2:15 p.m., came as traffic was being diverted around the earlier accident.

That accident, which involved a motorcycle, ambulance and truck, occurred as traffic slowed due to construction delays on I-380, the accident report said.

Authorities said Mark Steven Loomis, 47, of Hazelton, was driving a straight truck on North I-380 when he slowed for traffic due to construction. At about 12:45 p.m., his truck was rear-ended by an Econoline Ambulance driven by George Doughty, 22, of Atalissa. Both Loomis and Doughty were transported to Covenant Medical Center by ambulance.

A third vehicle, a motorcycle driven by Stephen Yuhase, 67, of Chesterfield, Mich., veered to avoid the collision, the accident report said. Yuhase and a passenger, Victoria Miller, 70, of New Baltimore, Mich., were thrown from the motorcycle. Yuhase was driven to Covenant Medical Center by ambulance, while Miller was flown out by helicopter.

The ambulance was transporting a patient at the time of the accident, the Waterloo-Cedar Falls Courier reported.

The accident report lists several other injured people, though it was unclear what vehicles they were traveling in. They are: Jason Lee Allen, 42, of Tiffin, Daisy Nielson, 82, of Waterloo and Jodie Dillon Gartner, 21, of Iowa City. Nielson and Gartner were transported to Covenant Medical Center by ambulance.

Evansdale Fire and Rescue, Jesup Fire and Rescue, Covenant Medical Center, the Iowa Department of Transportation and the Black Hawk County Sheriff's Department assisted with response to the two accidents.
